Thank You! Festival of India event a huge success!

Festival of India brings the community together!

Miindia.com's annual event Festival of India - a uniquely designed event for the Michigan Indian community was a roaring success. The event was held at Southfield Pavilion on Saturday October 24th ringing in the festive season to thousands of visitors.

An array of vendors from across the country and India creatively displayed their products along with some innovative creations- clothes, jewelry, handicrafts, organic food, to exclusive accessories, art work were on sale for the vibrant community. The four restaurants Chutneys, India Flavors, Hut-K Chaats and Tulasi/Govinda Catering kept the audience healthy and hydrated. The backstage which was a marvel by itself was creatively hand designed by Srivani and Minni Marupudi of Event for Less. DJ Prabhjit Singh kept the music playing non-stop amidst dances/music and other performances by exclusive artists residing in Michigan.

The event started with a brilliant rendition of the national anthem by Ria Narang and the sounds of India by the Shivshardul Dhol-Tasha Pathak. Singers of Indian Tunes (lead by Amit Deshpande, Ulka Bhide) vocally took us on a nostalgic journey. Several attendees found the event very intriguing and interesting as the sounds, sights and flavors of India was well captured in a festive mood.

The highlight of the day was the fashion show put together by the students of Wayne State University and University of Michigan/Dearborn, carefully coordinated by Ankita Ghosh and Imtiaz Syed (who was also the show stopper) with clothes and jewelry sponsored by Bombay Boutique. The “faces” segment that was freshly introduced had talented professionals like Vidya Krishnan, Lalitha Ravi, Sanjay Panjwani, Mitali Sharma, Anuja Rajendra, walking the ramp. The make-up for the fashion show was done by Uma Pillutla and Bhumika. The evening concluded with ISKCON’s Garba-Raas. Members of the community danced their hearts in a celebratory mood until late into the evening.
