The Indian diaspora in Michigan is planning on several events to celebrate India’s 75th Independence day this month. On August 15th 1947 India secured Independence from Britain.
India has made great progress during the last 75 years exceling in a number of fields and emerging as a world power and the largest democracy. Millions of Indian Americans are particularly proud of the shared democratic values between India and America.
With over 125,000 residents of Indian origin in Michigan, a number of celebrations are planned in the coming weeks.
Starting August 8th. two billboards are displayed on Detroit freeways in Troy and Livonia areas. One is visible to north bound traffic on I-75 (left side) at just South of 14 mile Road while the other one is displayed on I-275 Northbound traffic on the right at Plymouth Road (Livonia).
India Day Celebrations
The annual AQL ILA India Day celebration
in Novi will feature entertainment, parade. food and shopping booths. Please mark your calendars for August 20th Saturday at the Suburban Collection Showplace. The year’s featured guests are Indian movie stars Sonu Sood and Nimrat Kaur. A number of supporting organizations will participate in a parade to kick off the festivities.
A few events are scheduled in the Grand Rapids area as well. On August 19th Grand Rapids Asian-Pacific Foundation is hosting India Day Gala and Awards Dinner
featuring Bollywood actress Bhagyashree and her son Abhimanyu Dassani. On August 20th the same organization is hosting an all day celebration
with food and entertainment in Grand Rapids. Mark you calendars for a great day of fun!
Succoth Church in Farmington Hills will be celebrating India Day
on August 14th. SV Temple, Novi has scheduled VandE Maatram
event on August 14th.
