Maha Shivaratri “the great night of Lord Shiva” is one of the major festivals in Hinduism.  Maha Shivratri 2021 will be celebrated on Thursday, March 11, this year. 

Shivaratri is one of the most significant Hindu festivals that celebrate the convergence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. Maha Shivaratri is observed by remembering Lord Shiva and chanting mantras, prayers, and fasting. Millions of devotees of Lord Shiva keep awake all night chanting mantras and prayers. 

In Michigan, temples have scheduled all day events on Thursday, March 11th.  Events typically start in the morning and wrap up at midnight. Some temples are open until 5 am the next morning. Temples ask that you follow strict  COVID-19 mask and social distancing restrictions.
