Major Cricket News for Michigan – Launching National T-20 (recognized by ICC)

In the most exciting day in the history of USA Cricket, we are pleased to announce that Michigan Cricket Stars, which is part of the Minor League Cricket which is the only nation-wide T20 tournament in the USA that is sanctioned by USA Cricket, and internationally recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).  Minor League Cricket will feature 24 city-based teams from across four conferences in 2020, filled with the top echelon of talent from across the country combined with three players of international repute in each team.  The inaugural season of Minor League Cricket will begin on August 22.  Each team will play 12 games against other teams within their conference.  At the completion of the regular season, the top teams from each conference will compete in the Conference Finals.  In line with the Minor League being the highest level national Twenty20 tournament in the US, each team will field an 18 man roster that will be made up of a combination of the best US talent playing alongside international quality players.  In addition, Minor League Cricket forms a crucial pathway for all players to be selected in Major League Cricket.  

Nabeel Ahmed is no stranger to USA Cricket. His involvement dates back to the 1980s when he was the first immigrant to create a cricket team of all nationalities in Metropolitan Detroit known as Detroit Cricket Club. That was the beginning of his relentless effort to promote cricket in Michigan. It is imperative to mention that Mr. Ahmed grew up in his native Pakistan and played his cricket during his formative years along the likes of Wasim Akram and other well know players who went on to become legends of Pakistan. His involvement in promoting cricket has been in various capacities, be it as a player, promoter, sponsor or as an administrator. He had a strong vision as to how modern day cricket needed to be shaped in this vast country. 

Mr. Nabeel Ahmed has served as a CEO and 1st. Vice-President of the United States of America Cricket Association.  He was also founding member of Michigan Cricket Association and CEO of Great Lakes Cricket Conference.  Today, he sees his dreams and visions of USA Cricket becoming a reality under the present stakeholders of the sport in the USA.  Hence he decided to reconnect and jump start his journey with new zeal and commitment by announcing the formation of MICHIGAN CRICKET STARS team in the Minor League format designed by the new USA Cricket stakeholders ACE and is very confident that as Owner/ CEO of Michigan Cricket Stars, he will be able to provide the necessary impetus for the enrichment of creative talents in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana which will benefit the development of cricket at national level.

Hence, it is with great pleasure that we are announcing the formation of MICHIGAN CRICKET STARS and invite every young and active cricketers in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana to participate in the selection process and showcase their cricketing talents to get recognized for their efforts and accomplish their ultimate goal to represent USA cricket at international level.

Cricketers across the U.S. will have the opportunity to register for Minor League Cricket, and put their name forward for selection into a Minor League Cricket team for the upcoming season. The player registration process opened on Tuesday, July 7th, and will continue for four weeks, until the registration deadline on Friday, July 31st, at Midnight PST.  All players who register by the deadline will be considered to participate in the selection camp for which date and time will be announced in the near future.
