Navaratri & Dussehra Celebrations 2020 in Michigan
Navaratri is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu deity Durga. The meaning of Navaratri is nine nights (in Sanskrit language). Nine forms of Goddess Shakthi are worshipped on each of the nine nights. On the 10th and final day (October 25th) devotees come together for a grand celebration commonly known as Vijayadashami or "Dussehra."
Typically, during this time several Garba events are held throughout metro Detroit. With safety in concern, due to COVID-19, there will be no in-person Garba events. However, efforts are underway to host virtual events.
Local temples have published daily worship schedules for Navaratri with strict safety guidelines. Each day’s celebration will be dedicated to one of the nine forms of Goddess Shakthi. Best wishes for a safe and happy Navaratri season.
