Record 290000 Employment-based green cards in Fiscal Year 2022

November 14, 2022

For the first time over 290,000 employment-based green cards will be available.  This is an all-time record. Soon the wait may be over for thousands of Indian nationals working in USA!

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has announced that a record number of employment-based immigrant visas (Green cards) will be available in Fiscal Year 2022 (October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022).

Due to COVID related issues, the issuance of family-based green cards has been significantly lower.  It is because of restrictions on travel and also other administrative issues like staffing. This has resulted in 150,000 excess green cards that will now be channeled to employment-based green card applicants.

In the last Fiscal Year (2021), the excess was approximately 122,000 green cards which allowed for more than 262,000 employment-based green cards to be available.  However, due to delays in processing by USCIS several thousand visas were wasted.   The hope is that it will not happen again  this year.

Should these visa get issued. there  will be a positive impact on the US economy as many green card recipients and their family members will now look at starting a business, buying a home etc.  This will also help children of the applicants who will now become green card holders.  This will be good news for the State of Michigan.
