Travelling to India? Important visa and COVID-19 updates

March 2022

The Indian government has recently made some announcements that will promote more travel to India.

In 2020, several visa restrictions were imposed due to COVID-19.  Only Indian citizens OR foreign citizens with OCI cards were allowed to enter India.  Emergency visas were issued only under extenuating circumstances.  Many in the Indian diaspora were unable to attend funerals and other emergencies.

» With a significant improvement and success in combating COVID, the Indian Government has made the following announcements:

» Passengers with a valid e-Tourist Visa issued for 5 years can now enter India. Note that these visa were suspended since March 2020.  A fresh e-Tourist visa can also be obtained.

» Holders with valid Regular (Paper) Tourist visa with validity of 5 Years are also acceptable now.  New Regular visa up to 5 years validity may also be obtained. US citizens with Long duration (10 year) Tourist Visa  can now visit India.

Fully COVID-19 vaccinated passengers (with certificate for primary vaccinations) are NOT required to undergo a COVID-19 RT-PCR.

Unvaccinated passengers need to upload a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report (The test should have been conducted within 72 hours prior to undertaking the journey).

These changes will boost travel to India this Summer as many families have not seen each other in nearly 3 years.
