Indian Government relaxes restrictions for OCI cardholders to visit India

1017 Views
To alleviate the difficulties faced by a number of families with OCI cardholders in returning to India, the Indian Government has relaxed the rules.  The recent evacuation flights organized by India restricted children and other family members with OCI visa from boarding the flights.  For instance, US citizen kids of stranded Indian parents were not allowed to board the flights. Thus the entire family had to stay back causing undue hardship.

The categories of OCI cardholders now eligible to return to India are:

» Minor children born to Indian nationals abroad and holding OCI cards

» OCI cardholders who wish to come to India on account of family emergencies, such as a death in the family

» Couples where one spouse is an OCI cardholder and the other is an Indian national, and they have a permanent residence in India

» University students who are OCI cardholders (but are not minors) and whose parents are Indian citizens living in India

This should be a big relief for many as the evacuation plans enter into the next phase.
