DetroitFebruary 2022Dr. Ananda Prasad - a distinguished member of the Michigan Indian community has passed away. Dr. Ananda Prasad was a gentleman and a scholar. He was also very involved in community activities as one of the founders of India League of America. He made Michigan his home for 59 years. He legacy should serve as an inspiration to the entire Indian diaspora in USA and elsewhere.Dr. Prasad served a distinguished professor of Internal Medicine Wayne State University. He never let his age slow down his work to make a difference to millions around the world.In April 2020 he was infected with COVID-19 along with his wife Aryabala. He spoke to miindia.com about how he treated himself with zinc and recovered.
On behalf of the Michigan Indian community, we express our sincere condolences to Mrs. Aryabala (his wife of 70 years) and other grieving family members.Here is a list of accomplishments and recognitions:» Dr. Prasad was a distinguished professor of Internal Medicine and a pioneering researcher in the importance of zinc in the human diet. He has made important strides researching the mineral, as well as contributing significantly to the field of hematology and sickle cell disease.» Dr. Prasad received a congressional commendation for his lifelong studies involving zinc and the importance of zinc in the human diet and development. Zinc has been proven to help reduce the severity of the common cold.» His zinc studies have saved countless lives in Africa and Asian countries, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.» He was the author of numerous books and scientific articles, several of which have been noted as citation classics.» In December, 2009 TIME magazine named zinc the “miracle mineral”.» In 2011 Dr. Prasad received a prestigious Mahidol Award from Thailand for his contributions in the field of zinc metabolism.» Dr. Prasad was recognized as among the world’s top 2% of scholars in his field of study.» He joined the School of Medicine at Wayne State University in 1963.Funeral Details:Visitation: February 11, 2022 – 2 pm to 8 pmFuneral service will be private with family only.Address: McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 West Twelve Mile RdFarmington Hills, MI 48334Ph: (248) 553-0120Make a contribution:In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Prasad's name may be made to: ACP (American College of Physicians) at 800-ACP-1915 (800-227-1915) to make a credit card donation over the phone for the Prasad Lecture Endowment.
