In Loving Memory of Rajiv Ranjan Das
January 26th, 1959 – July 6th, 2021
Rajiv Ranjan Das, of Okemos, MI passed on from this world unexpectedly at the age of 62 on July 6th, 2021. A loving husband, selfless father, and an unparalleled source of strength for his community, he will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and colleagues across the world.
Rajiv was born in Ranchi, India to Salil Ranjan Das and Nisha Sinha and attended Church Missionary Society School in Bhagalpur, India. He went on to graduate from Bhagalpur College of Engineering in Bihar with his BSE in Mechanical Engineering. He married the love of his life, Amita Das (née Sinha), on July 7th, 1987 and they welcomed their first son, Mohnish in 1988.
The young family immigrated from India to the United States, initially living in Orlando and Jacksonville, Florida before relocating to metro Detroit and settling in Okemos, Michigan where they welcomed their second son, Abhijit in 1996 and Rajiv received his MBA in Integrative Management from the Eli Broad Graduate College of Business at Michigan State University.
Rajiv worked as a Mechanical Engineer, Management Consultant, Director of Information Technology, where he eventually rose to the rank of Chief Information Security Officer / Deputy Director of State of Michigan. Most recently, he served as a Principal of the Cyber Security Management Consulting practice at Plante Moran.
His professional accomplishments include:
Chair of the Board of Trustees – Bharatiya Temple of Lansing, Adjunct Faculty – Oakland University School of Business Administration, Panel Judge, Speaker, and Instructor – Eli Broad Graduate College of Business, Member of the Governing Body – Detroit CISO & CISO Chicago Summit, and Founding Board Member – Cloud Security Alliance, Detroit.
He will be remembered for his love of classic automobiles, letter writing, literary works and films, lighthouses of the Great Lakes, and exploring the world with his family by his side. In his later years, Rajiv was an accomplished painter and poet who took pride in depicting his favorite landscapes such as Mount Rainier and Hindu deities with the stroke of a brush.
Preceded in death by his father, Salil Ranjan Das and is survived by his wife of 34 years Amita (Sinha), sons Mohnish Raj Das (Sahar Banisafar) and Abhijit Das, mother Nisha Rani, and brothers Jayant Ranjan Das and Sanjay Ranjan Das.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8th from 5-8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home in East Lansing, MI.
