Turnip Chutney | Posted On Feb 01, 2021

This is a different chutney with no coconut. Good to eat with dosa, idli or chapathi.

Oil: 3 tbsp
Turnip’s: One medium skin peeled
Onion: 1/ of a medium
Tomato: one small
Chana Dhal: 2 tbsp
Coriander seeds: 2 tbsp
Red chilies: 4 large
Tamarind: small piece

Salt as required

For tadka:
1 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp chana dhal
1/2 tsp urad dhal
Curry leaves


Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Once oil is hot, add turnips and onion sauté for 2 min then add tomato once this is cooked add Chana dhal, coriander seeds and red chilies and sauté for 5 more minutes. 

Cool the mixture, add tamarind and salt and grind to a smooth paste. 

Transfer to container.
Heat oil with ingredient in the tadka section and add to this and enjoy!
